‘Who’s my pretty girl?’ This Verizon ad suggests she’s a natural born STEM student, only with a little misdirection

There happen to be a lot more male students of engineering and male engineers than there are female cohorts in or studying the field. And it doesn’t seem to be a difference in ability or biology. In fact, women have higher grade point averages than their male counterparts. So what’s the reason for this disproportionate gender distribution in such a lucrative, marketable profession? Maybe it has something to do with the dominant image of a “proper” girl as depicted in the media, reinforced by adult figures, and exemplified by this video by Verizon from its campaign, Inspire Her Mind.
