‘Let girls be girls’ in an equal opportunity world: Goldieblox takes gender equity to the toystore shelves
The creator of Goldieblox had one grievance with her childhood–there weren’t enough opportunities for girls, like her, to get interested in engineering by playing with the toys traditionally marketed to boys.
Her company’s vision is to fill that space on toy store shelves where the only choices right now for young girls appear to be Barbies and princess dolls. The point here isn’t to prove that girls can engineer like the boys; it’s to let them engineer like girls. What a powerful thing.
One step forward for gender equity. Finally.
